We took a liking to Inject Design and the qualities such as the company’s professional and straight to the point (no bullshit), yet casual, local and fun approach to graphic design. Filming on location at a local city park and in front of some nationally recognised street artists such as BMD, we wanted to incorporate local design work and locations to show our interest in staying local (Wellington CBD). We are constantly walking forwards on film, demonstrating how we are forward thinking, never stopping and adaptable to situations and change of environment.
To get to our final product, we used a variety of techniques to refine our filming; from holding the camera ourselves, to using Go-Pro, to a Stabiliser Wheel to a Shoulder-Mount, then to a tripod. We were sure to articulate our message in the clearest and most effective way, and took turns filming each other so we were in control of each shot, and had our turn individually then together in still shots set-up with a tripod to show us as a team.
As we were filming outside on location, we decided to keep the well known Wellington winds in the footage as we are trying to say that this small detail wont stop us from doing what we want to do, from articulating our thoughts but also setting the scenery (even though we re-shot some of our previous audio clips).
We wanted to show off our own design work within the film, but in a non-cheesy and smooth flowing way. So by adding images through After Effects onto the whiteboard and verbally outlining our design skills we were able to introduce our personal design pieces without disrupting the flow of the film.
We decided to film ourselves in our own frame and come together at the end to demonstrate that we are two individuals, but we do think very similar and can integrate our ideas together. We each took a different approach to the on-screen motion graphics to show our personality and how we each like to communicate - Magenta with visual motifs and clean typography and Louise with hand rendered text. We learnt how to adjust the colours within the footage through SpeedGrade to make the footage appear bright and cheerful, complimented with an upbeat soundtrack.
If we were to do this again Magenta would like to add more video effects to make the transitions between clips more seamless, while Louise would like to have the script more free flowing so we could have room to insert things on the spot and not worry about getting the lines correct.
We could definitely have made the text stand out more from the backgrounds of each clip, and spent more time on refining the symbols. In addition, we could also have taken a non-scripted approach to make it seem more natural perhaps.

Overall, we wanted to come across as sincere/honest and ourselves and together we think we have achieved it. We are also thinking of sending our film to people in the industry to get their professional feedback on the approach we took.
